This is a view of Bamboo Island painted from under a tree on a path on Laem Tong Beach. It is the last of my “loose” more expressionistic series of smaller paintings done on Phi Phi Island. These smaller pictures were started as an aid to allow me to test colours and paint quality before applying them onto my bigger “main” pictures. As you can see from the dates, this was done at the same time as the larger Bamboo Island painting. I really like the way the smaller paintings on black paper take on their own atmosphere and almost feel like they were done at night just after sunset or just before sunrise. I like this unexpected outcome.
