Cloud Tower, Bali

Cloud Tower, Bali

Oil Pastel on Black Paper, 14.5 x 20.5 cm, 7/3/2016

During this trip to Bali with my wife the weather was very hot, humid and stormy. This led to many interesting cloud formations and I really like this one because it echoed the shapes found in the doorways and temples that are traditionally found in Bali. This was also drawn from inside Room 305 in the Mercure Kuta Beach overlooking Kuta Beach and the Ocean. I liked the way the clouds built up into the tower shape and also reflected onto the surface of the ocean. Although they were ever changing as I drew them I like the challenge and uncertainty of working fast and trying to capture certain moments.
