This Oil Pastel on Brown Paper drawing was done on a day trip to the very special town of Carmel, California. It was my first visit here and as we arrived I was surprised by the unique beauty of the houses and roads that seemed to have been built as part of the surrounding forest. The town centre is full of Art Galleries and has lots of unique architecture. This drawing was done whilst sitting on the beach during a brief visit with family. The waves were quite strong and choppy, creating a lot of white water and mist, which was a nice contrast to the deep blues and greens of the Pacific Ocean.
This portrait was done for my good friends Rick and Laurel from Sebastopol, California. It is in Loving Memory of their horse Harley who has sadly moved onto a better place. I remember meeting Harley and being in awe of this magnificent creature as I fed him a carrot whilst shaking with fear! It is quite an experience to actually see and interact face to face with a horse. I was really struck by the size, strength, power and great temperament of this beautiful animal. Rest in Peace Harley.
