You’ll Never Walk Alone

You'll Never Walk Alone, Acrylic on Canvas, 73 x 60 cm, 2018 by David Lloyd

Acrylic on Canvas, 73 x 60 cm, 2018

This Acrylic on Canvas piece was made for an exhibition called “Red” at the Redroom in Taipei City, Taiwan. It is inspired by the passion and love shown by the supporters of my hometown football club Liverpool FC. It is a subject that I have wanted to capture for a while and this gave me the perfect chance to do so.

Just before the start and end of each game supporters will raise scarves and flags and join together to sing the club anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” It’s always a very moving experience and even after hearing it 1000’s of times it still gives me goosebumps and stirs emotions. It is a great show of unity, support and passion and is our way of trying to lift our team and help them perform at their highest level. The supporters become the “Twelfth Man” adding an extra dimension to the team.

Dragon 2, San Chong

Ink on Brown Paper, 19.5 x 26cm, 2018

This second Dragon drawing is one of a series of Ink on brown paper drawings of a beautiful Temple in San Chong City, New Taipei City, Taiwan. Taiwan has many different sized and shaped Temples and they always amaze me with their beautiful shapes and colours. The skill involved in making these temples is incredible. I decided to start making Ink drawings as it is an enjoyable process to slowly build up the shapes and detail of such a complex subject. It took a lot of intense observation to pick out the different details, but I like the way the colourful Temples look in Black Ink. As I was drawing my other pictures I decided that I wanted to focus in on some of the incredible details that I could see. I also love how the shapes create great light and dark areas helping to define the different shapes and figures the more I looked at it. This is one of a pair of dragons that can be found at the front of the roof of the Temple.
